The Kindle store on Amazon.com gives you access to nearly 700,000 electronic titles, which also includes public domain works that are free.
Sony eBook store said they had more than 1.2 million titles, but if one expects Google Books, the store size is approximately 60,000 real titles.
eBook Store Barnes & Noble's claims too much for more than a million pounds on meals, but the number of titles available in the store is about 26,000 - the rest is in the public domain (free of rights) of the works you can download via Google Books.
Apple's promotional material states that "tens of thousands" of titles of books are available on their iBookstore but exact figures are unknown. However, a simple Google search reveals that iBookstore is the smallest of all with a collection of about 22,400 titles.
On the positive side, iBooks supports ePub format so you can download one of public domain books from Google Book Search and read on your iPhone or IPAD.
